How to find it

The Makarska riva runs along the seafront at the base of the old town. Head for the town harbour and the main promenade - the MomentoSnap booth is on the waterfront side, with Biokovo framing the skyline behind it.

If you're coming from Brela or Baška Voda to the north, follow the coastal road D8 south into Makarska and park near the harbour. From Tučepi to the south, it's about a 5-minute drive or a 30-minute walk along the waterfront path.

The peninsula of Sv. Petar (Saint Peter) is just a short stroll west of the harbour - a good landmark if you need one. The booth is between the harbour and the start of the peninsula walkway.

Best time to come

Late afternoon is the sweet spot. Biokovo catches warm golden light and the mountain looks at its most dramatic against the sky. About Makarska

Makarska is the main town of the Makarska Riviera, a 60-kilometre stretch of Dalmatian coast between Split and the Neretva delta. The town has been a settlement since at least Roman times - the name likely derives from the ancient Muccurum - and it was a significant Ottoman port in the 16th and 17th centuries before passing to Venetian and then Habsburg control. The defining feature of both the town and the Riviera is Biokovo, a limestone massif that forms one of the steepest coastal gradients in the Mediterranean: the mountain reaches 1,762 metres at its highest point (Sveti Jure) and drops almost vertically to the sea.
